Production Blog: Adding in Images
Hi Blog!
Today I will be telling you more about the editing I followed to develop the commercial about myself. First, when looking at the images, I noticed how they didn't fit a certain theme. This made the overall commercial look messy as there was nothing that connected one photo to the next. I decided to create a theme of one color showing itself throughout each photo. This color would be pink as it stands for comfort and kindness. I wanted to have each of my images showing at least one small amount of pink. This can also show that one thing about me stayed the same for my entire life, my love for pink and my personal qualities. In the original photos that I picked there was only one photo that had pink in it, the baby photo with my mother. Therefore, I needed to remove all of my photos and find and replace them with new ones. In the last photo I used it does not include a large amount of pink, but I wanted to add it in because it did tell a lot about me. The photo of my toddler self was taken on my mom's camera from an old album in my house. This photo was of me in a ballet dancer costume because I used to be passionate about dancing when I was younger, and I thought it was important to highlight that. I had to send myself the image from my mom's phone and add it into the CapCut app. I then went to look for another image to use from old albums that showed myself when I was in around first grade. This image shows me wearing a girl scout vest. I have been a girl scout since the age of four and I was around 6 or 7 when this image was taken. I found this photo in an album from my house and took a photo of it and exported it to CapCut where I added it to the commercial. For the fourth image, I needed a photo from when I was around ten to twelve. This image was harder to find because I didn't have that many images of myself from around that time. I needed to look through both my mom and my dad's phones for images of myself. Another problem I met was not only not being able to find a solo shot of me, but I rarely saw a solo shot of me wearing pink. I finally got lucky when I scrolled upon an image of me wearing a 70's Halloween costume that was pink. I found this image from my dad's phone and texted it to myself, then I exported the photo to CapCut. Lastly, I needed an image from a recent time of me being 16 years old. This image was relatively easier to find because I tend to wear pink a lot more and my mom tends to take a lot of photos of me. I looked through her phone for a good photo of me that represents myself today. I selected it, sent it to myself, and added it into the editing software. In regard to the videos, I wasn't sure where the videos I wanted for when I was younger were so I couldn't add them in just yet. I know they are on an old recording device so I will need to find it and export the videos to my computer, then send the video to myself. As for the video of me recently, I haven't been able to find one of just me wearing pink yet. This is what I did for producing my commercial! See you later!
in my commercial, I didn't like how they strayed off a certain theme. Previously I stated that I wanted the theme of my commercial to display my ambience, but I didn't realize that I wanted to portray it through colors. I wanted the theme of my commercial to be calm and clean with pink to be shown throughout it. Not only to show that I like the color, but also because it stands for a person having kindness and comfort. I realized that around 2 photos didn't fit the theme I wanted so I needed to change them and find new photos. I liked the videos I had picked but I knew I wanted to include the audio of each video in my commercial. This would not only tell the audience what I sound like but also how I act and the phrases that I might say often. I was able to include the original audio from the videos over the music I added by unmuting the original sound. Although I had the images and videos in the order I liked, I needed them to have a similar smooth transition like the songs. I didn't know how to make transitions between the photos smooth or with flow rather than choppy. Whenever I added a fade in or fade out transition, I felt that I was having more trouble seeing how to make the photos look like they fit into the commercial. It wasn't the photos themselves, but the stillness of them made it difficult or awkward to fit in transition to the videos and each other. Eventually I found out how I could add an effect that made the photos seem more fluid in the commercial. Next, I had the videos in my editing software however they I later realized that I wanted to shorten the videos down because the video seemed too long. When deciding how long to make them I knew I wanted to make the videos around 5 -10 seconds and equal in length. This was because I didn't want the audience to be bored by them, but I also knew that if the videos went by too fast that the audience might not have understood the meaning for including them. Now back to the songs. My song choices were similar to each other in their sense of calmness; however, one song was more upbeat than the other. I wanted to move the upbeat song to the part of my commercial where I am showing my most recent self. This means I moved the beginning of the second song to match with the transition from my 10-year-old self to the clip of my 13-year-old self. I wanted the more upbeat song to give a coming-of- age ambience rather than just having the sounds not fit the images. Thats all for today! See you later!
