Production Blog: Finding the Songs
Hi blog!
It's me again, today I'm going to be telling you all about what I am doing to produce my first commercial. First, I knew I wanted my blog to have a calm and clean atmosphere that still represented my personality. I knew that not only the photos played a fundamental role in this, but my songs were very important. Through the song choices I made I knew I could imagine where the images should go. Due to this, I decided to make my first step finding the songs for my commercial. Then I would find the images that fit my personality depending on how they fit with the songs. I knew I wanted to use around two songs as I felt like using three songs might make the commercial feel chaotic. The beats of three songs would be less likely to fit together, while two songs could have the perfect transition to help the commercial feel fluid. When figuring out what songs to pick I first went to Spotify and searched through each of the playlists I created. I already had one song that I wanted to add in mind but I was having a really hard time finding another song to add that similarly matched the rhythm of the first song. The first song I wanted to use is called "Call it Fate Call it Karma", by The Strokes. I wanted to include this song because it has been my favorite song for a while and I knew that it displayed the calm overall vibe I knew I wanted to include. I also noticed that the song included lyrics such as "We don't understand", which I thought could portray the innocence that comes with being a child, not knowing or understanding everything there is to know about life. With having the first song decided I was still having trouble deciding a song that was similar to the vibe but a little more exciting. I wanted the second song to be more exciting or coming of age because I knew that I would use images of myself growing up as the second portion of the commercial. I thought that by using a calm beat in the beginning I could depict my younger self as getting through life easily. However, for the older images of myself I wanted to demonstrate how I have grown as a person and encountered obstacles that made me who I am today, therefore the music is slightly louder and more fast paced. Some artists I like that I thought about putting in my commercial included Faye Webster and Frank Ocean. I still wasn't sure which songs to pick because there were a couple of songs by Faye Webster I could see myself including. Although, once I remembered that Frank Ocean has one song called "Ivy" that describes the action of looking and reflecting on the past of your life without regret. It describes viewing your past with contentment and knowledge of the lessons learned from yourself. I also wanted to use this song because it includes phrases such as "We'll never be those kids again", I thought this lyric would be perfect to use because the commercial shows me transitioning from a child to a teenager knowing that the child I once was will never come back and this is who I am now. This is what I wanted my commercial to showcase, my growth. Once I found the songs I wanted to use I screen recorded "Call it Fate Call it Karma" first and extracted the sound from the file onto CapCut, then I screen recorded "Ivy" from Spotify and exported the song onto CapCut. That's all for the picking of my songs for my commercial! See you next time!
